When considering new ideas for “Transition Santa Cruz” events or projects, we look for a grounding in Transition concepts and mission and familiarity with our local organization and how it works. A good way to get this is:
- Attend a TSC Intro Event and read the Transition Handbook; and,
- Volunteer to help at an event or join a working group
Once you have your idea in mind—even if it is just a vision—we would love to hear about it and talk about how it might fit within the Transition framework. Use the Contact page to email or call us. Next, we encourage people to:
- Fill out a project proposal form. This form is designed to help you think through the details of what you are proposing and make it clear to us. (We will send you this form upon request.)
- Meet with the New Project Committee to share your idea and discuss next steps.
If your project or event is approved by the steering group:
We will be very excited to be working together!
The following points are requests we make of organizers because we have found that they help things proceed with more clarity, efficiency, and enjoyment for all:
- Work with a “buddy” from the steering group or a working group, who will meet regularly with you to support the project and be a link back to the TSC group for other ideas and support. We welcome ideas and input and also will give ideas and input, with a focus on ensuring that the event fits with our mission and values.
- Take part in a debriefing meeting after the event, with the steering/working group buddy and others involved with organizing the event, to harvest information about what worked well and any lessons learned for others doing similar projects in the future.
- Keep in mind that equity and inclusion are central to TSC’s concept of resilience. Therefore, leaders are expected to:
- treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
- avoid the use of racist, sexist, or otherwise oppressive or exclusive language in group meetings;
- consider equity and inclusion in all project and event planning.
We will make available the use of our name and logo for promotion, and help with publicity in the media, in addition to providing the help we provide for other transition-related projects as mentioned above.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this process. We look forward to hearing about your ideas!
