Many communities in the US have some form of exchange that can only be used in the local area. One of the best, Sonoma GoLocal, is an innovative program that uses principles of cooperative economics and financial sustainability to create a shift toward local commerce. Fortunately, we have a local group committed to bringing the program here.
Derek Huntington, founder of Sonoma GoLocal, will be coming to Santa Cruz to speak on Tuesday, October 12, at the Louden Nelson Center. GoLocal is an innovative program that uses principles of cooperative economics and financial sustainability to create a shift toward local commerce. It has already made a substantial impact on the success of local businesses and the purchasing power of the general population in Sonoma County, and will soon be spreading to Santa Cruz County, as well as several communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Come and learn how you can be a part of this historic shift toward sustainable local economics!
Langdon Roberts of New Earth Exchange will also speak briefly about how GoLocal is being adapted to meet the specific needs of Santa Cruz County. Discussion with Derek and Langdon to follow.
The event is being co-sponsored by New Earth Exchange, Transition SC and Transition SLV, and will be introduced by someone from Think Local First! We are truly building a broad coalition of support.
