Water is one of the items sure to get scarcer and more expensive as we proceed into the era of climate change. But we don't have to sit idly by as precious rainwater runs off roofs and pavement and into our storm drain system. In this workshop, experienced landscape designer Golden Love will show how to catch the water that falls where you live.
Here is his plan for the workshop:
- Welcome and socializing in the demonstration garden (30 minutes). We will have organic veggies and fruits from the garden for people to snack on.
- Power Point Presentation—“Catch the Water”(short presentation about the major types of rainwater harvesting possibilities and description of rain barrel installation) (total 30 minutes)
- Hands-on building of simple barrel system: people will install a rain barrel system off of one of my downspouts with overflow going to a new stir fry greens earthworks. Basics of gutter screening, filtering, first flush, gravity feed, faucet installation, potable use, cost, etc. will be discussed. A free rain barrel will be given to the person who can answer a question about the presentation first. (60 minutes)
- Walking tour of rain water harvesting earthworks, infiltration basins, and a bio-swale. All are nearby, and all are harvesting rainwater and preventing storm water run off. (60 minutes)
