The Spring equinox is coming, and the time has come again to share on a deeper level with each other. Here's a chance to let our hearts spring open with stories, poetry, rap, song, theatre, whatever is inside waiting to burst out that may give us heart in these turbulent times. This a great opportunity to express :

♦ your vision for our collective Transition to a sane, resilient, inspirational future for Santa Cruz
♦ your celebration of changes that you have made, the courage it took to make them
♦ your grief or confusion at how we got here
♦ your sense of connection to nature in celebration of spring equinox

Come hear first-hand reports from the largest-ever climate demonstration in U.S. history (in Washington D.C., February 17). We will show inspiring pictures of some of the 40,000 demonstrators and their hopeful and creative signs and costumes, and also give background on the Keystone XL pipeline, the tar sands, and why people came from all over the country to attend this rally. Finally, we will let you know how to get involved.

Fracking resource page from Transition San Francisco

On the evening of MLK day, 35 people gathered in San Francisco for information and discussion on Fracking in California. Transition SF invited speakers to present information on hydraulic fracturing and how their organizations are opposing it in California.

Although fracking has been occurring in California for decades, we are now at the beginning of a new wave using aggressive new technologies. Now is the time for us to act together. Here are recommendations from the speakers on how we citizens can be heard by our governments and make a real difference.

TSCers headed to the Keystone XL protest in Washington

Protester with signHello! We are headed to the White House on February 17 to join what is sure to be a huge protest against the climate-killing Keystone XL oil pipeline proposed to be built to carry Canadadian tar sands oil to the Gulf of Mexico.

Would you like to join us--physically or in spirit? Read on.

If you would like to go, contact me (Michael Levy) at michael@transitionsc.org. We will be having meetings in January and February to coordinate joining up at the protest and to plan how we will be creatively visible as Santa Cruzans who care about the climate. I can also share with you what I know about the protest, travel, and lodging in Washington.
